Free Harbour Cruise

This weekend is the 75th birthday celebrations for the harbour bridge.

On Sunday, the whole bridge is being shut down for pedestrians to walk across. This includes closing the cycleway.

I was a little curious as to how you were meant to cross the bridge with your bike on the day, so I had a look at the official website and found this:

The Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway will be closed from Noon to 11pm. Prior to that the Cycleway will be open for crossing the Bridge. To cater specially for cyclists, the event organisers have arranged an alternate crossing. This is a special water taxi service (with bike racks) that travels to Walsh Bay from the north side of the Bridge. This is a continuous, direct, free service operating during the closure period. Please note there may be a slight delay in crossing on Sunday 18 March between Noon and 11pm. Signage will be erected at the entrance to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway one week prior to the event advising of these arrangements. The Cycleway will be closed on the day to enable set up and execution of a special event. This is the inclusion in the day’s celebrations of the first ever traditional Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony to cleanse the Harbour Bridge at sunset.

Today there was a sign up on the North side:

I was planning not to ride on Sunday, but given this I might wander down to the harbour and do the round trip a little after midday just so I can take some photos.

I can't imagine how much this is going to cost them, given this rate from watertaxis.com.au

I assume they are getting a bulk buying rate and all, but it still can't be cheap!
